Evan has been to a beach in Michigan before, but it was too cold for him to do more than walk down to (but not in) the water. This time, he got to play in both the water and the sand. California beach weather is ideal for kids because it is cool enough that you don't really have to worry about them in the heat, but it is also warm enough for them to spend time in shorts playing in the sand and water.
Grammy helped the kids navigate through the sand 
and zoe and evan quickly changed into shorts to play in the sand by the water...
Aunt Kate introduced Evan to the wave catching game. Basically, it led to 2 hours of Evan running towards the water and away from the water as the waves came in and out. he had a ball trying to "catch" the water and not letting the water "catch" him
Kate and Zoe tired of the game before E, so he explained the rules to me and let me play for a bit
grace really has a rough life
and sometime either before or after her nap (can't remember which) she got to stick her toes in the sand. so far, she isn't bothered by textures because she finds grass and sand in her hands and on her feet quite intriguing.
