First Haircut!

After the first cut!

Its a team effort to distract him from the shiny objects that Grandma G was using...

Seriously, Grandma G, what are those shiny things and why won't you stop putting them near my head!

The ultimate trick...Evan's all time favorite food - fruit pouches. This was the sweet potato, pumpkin, apple and blueberry one which to me doesn't sound terribly appealing, but he loved every last drop!
Not very found of the scissors near the back of his neck...Overall, his first haircut was not bad, but definitely more traumatic than it probably would have been if he wasn't trying to bust out 4 molars at the same time with double ear infections. Oh, and he had a breathing treatment at the Dr. office and was sent home with a mask for a nebulizer. FUN day at the Dr! All of that coupled with the fact that his daycare said we couldn't bring him any more because of his biting has made this a special week! The good news is that we realized the daycare stunk and this was a blessing in disguise. And, seriously if I had 4 of the biggest teeth trying to come through my gums at the same time AND I had two very painful ear infections AND I couldn't communicate to anyone that I was in serious pain, I would TOTALLY bite people.

---------------------------------
Here is Evan making friends with his mask that we have to use twice a day for his breathing treatments...this is because he has had a pretty sad cough every so often and his breathing is a bit on the wheezy side....

and this looked like such a good idea at the time...

this is what i found when i looked over to check on evan as i was loading the washer with his dirty laundry...

bedtime/bottle update. evan has been bottle free from two nights! hopefully night three thru forever goes this smoothly....which of course it won't since i have put it in writing. but the last two nights putting him to bed without a bottle where actually easier than a TON of the nights that he took a bottle...scary easy. That is what makes me nervous. This is Evan a week or so ago....I guess if he thinks I'm going to skip his bedtime story he takes it into his own hands!

DIY Water Park

This was a game that lasted for quite some time. The rules - bring a piece of tupperware above your head, then bring it down as fast as you can and submerge it in the bucket full of water, THEN.... smile and admire your work. for at least a few seconds, then bring the tupperware out of the water splashing as much water as possible. repeat.
yes. i am aware those are bath toys ; )
playing with the hose! i am also aware of how bad this game was to play on earth day. we were the anti earth day of the neighborhood... HOWEVER, we are one of just a few in our neighborhood that recycles, so i am not beating myself up too bad about our wasteful water use! plus, the porch was hot, and i didn't want evan to burn his feet.
looks like he was thirsty?

Evan is a fan of his fan

Not long after moving in we realized that the room that we chose as Evan's nursery gets HOT. If the sun is out, the room can easily get up to 80 degrees and maintains near that throughout the night. The little man has spent many nights sleeping in just a onesie or tshirt with fans place all over the room. Bret and I decided that it would be a great help if we installed a ceiling fan in his room. Evan napped on the couch nearly the entire time it took Bret to put up the fan. After E woke up, the three of us went up together to flip the switch and turn the fan on for the first time after Bret turned the electricity on. This is a pic of one of his reactions. He instantly started smiling, pointing at the fan, dancing and clapping his hands.

He's a BITER...or not

The past week or so have been a bit challenging. Evan has decided that he would not really like to sleep COMPLETELY through the night and naptime is not nearly as fun as it used to be. This means that Bret and I have had to buckle down and occasionally bury our heads under the pillows when he is "working it out" and getting himself back to sleep. Generally this means a little bit of crying that has some kind of weird magnetic pull for mommies and daddies. You don't really mean to get out of bed, but somehow you end up at the side of the crib comforting the little guy back to sleep. Good news though, Evan is doing MUCH better in the going to sleep and staying asleep categories....whew. We are only in the clear for a few more days though b/c per pediatrician's orders, we have to start weaning him off his right before sleep bottle. It is the only one that he still takes, but he is (and we are) quite attached to it. In two more months, that bottle is supposed to be out of our lives for good......ahhhhhhh.

The sleep bit was not the worst of our worries this week though. It has been building up in the past few weeks, but this week was definitely the worst. Evan has started biting. Initially at daycare, the biting was not intentional or out of frustration. I don't know if he actually even bit down. This week, however, several kids have gone home from daycare with their very own replica of Evan's 8 teeth imprinted on their arm. UH OH. Big problem, and I panicked. I, of course, rushed out and bought a book on what to expect during the toddler years, and immediately read/re-read all my old issues of parents magazine. I thought he was going to become a serial biter and was just a few days away from getting kicked out of daycare ; ).

VERY long story but in the end, we realized (or maybe the babysitter pointed it out) last night that a molar just broke through the gums and the babysitter thinks a few more spots look swollen. Evan typically gets his teeth in pairs, so that isn't shocking. So, hopefully now the kids aren't coming home with a replica of Evan's 9-10 teeth : )!!! But, seriously, I am NOT a fan of teething getting progressively worse. It makes sense because the teeth are bigger, but I might have signed up for the "he can just gum it" plan had I known what kind of stinker E was going to be with his molars!

Another bright spot of today, Evan's 12 month pictures are done and online! www.no9images.com to see them!!!!!

A year in pictures

Now that Evan is 1 year, 2 weeks and 6 days old, I thought I should go back through the year in pictures. I am going to attempt to narrow it down to 1-25 per month : ).

Here are his stats:
20 lbs 8.8oz
30.5"
Blonde Hair
Blue Eyes

Favorite Color: Blue (duh...it makes his eyes look pretty ; ) )

Favorite Food: YOGURT (he would eat gallons if I would let him...he gets very angry when he finishes his 4oz YoBaby)

Favorite Veggie: Tie between broccoli and peas

Favorite Fruit: Bananas (recent development...used to hate them mashed up as baby food. now he eats a whole one himself!)
Favorite Snack: Cinnamon Animal Crackers, Teddy Grahams, Nilla Wafers, Goldfish, Graham Crackers (can you tell he loves to snack?)
Evan started out at 8lbs and 20.5" tall. At 1 year, he is now just over 20lbs and 30" tall. He started out with 0 teeth, and now he has 8. In the beginning he had red hair and blue eyes, and now he has blonde hair (whew...I wasn't sure I could handle a red head!) and kept the beautiful blue eyes. He eats table food, loves his whole milk, and only takes a bottle before bed. It is crazy to me how fast kids change. From day 1 he was learning to do something new EVERY day. I know this is the same for nearly every baby born into the world, but it still boggles my mind to see it (in super speedy mode) happen right in front of me.

Month 1: This picture was taken in Evan's first week in the world. I would like to point out that he now cannot fit this way in the crib. His head touches the bumper on one side, and his legs have to be either propped up on the bumper or tucked underneath him!

Month 2: As you can SEE, this is the AHHHHH! I can SEE month! Month 3: This month, Evan took his first plane ride and got to see his Aunt Kate and Uncle Brian get married in CA Month 4: This is the month that Evan really got to experience Lake Tippecanoe. We are excited to experience it a lot more now that we are only 2 hours away (rather than 4!)Month 5: This month Evan got to enjoy the Newport AquariumMonth 6: Sitting up and eating a little more than rice cereal and oatmealMonth 7: Happy Baby....lots of teeth. Evan also learned how to crawl this month...just a couple of weeks before he turned 7 months oldMonth 8: Cruising around the furniture like a proMonth 9: On the move and FAST at it

Month 10: Enter the sippy cup. He would also take his first steps this month...just 3 days after he turned 9 months old!Month 11: Evan learned how to stand up on his own this month, so GOODBYE crawling! He also bid farewell to Mariemont and HELLO to Fishers, IN!Month 12: Goodbye jars of food and HELLO utensils

Its starting to look a lot like....

SUMMER! He's pretty smart...he realized that it was a mower and that it is wasting his time to push it around on the cement. SO, he is trying to shove it off into the grass! This is his "its time to get down to business and finish my chores" face
